In many ways, this will be a night you will never forget! Prom is your special day to let loose and de-stress from studying for the college entrance exams and applications. Even though it’s a day for you to let loose, there are some things that you need to get ready before prom day. Don’t worry, to help things go smoothly we provided a prom checklist.
Below we created a guide on how to plan a perfect prom night. This template will walk you through each step of creating your personalized prom checklist to help you countdown the nights till the special event.
5 Reasons to Love Our Prom Checklist
1. Automatic Timeline
How long does it take to plan your prom night, you ask? We think that’s a matter of personal preference and we hate checklists that have fixed time frames because they make so many people feel anxious and “behind” from day one. Just add the day you’re starting to plan your party, along with what day prom will be held on, and each task included in the worksheet will get an assigned due date! This will help you plan and make sure you have everything taken care of in time for your special night.
Our template is formatted to help you easily see what tasks need to get done, and which should have higher priority.
- Find the perfect dress? Check the box in the row for choosing a dress, and it will turn green. This helps you visually spot which tasks are still outstanding.
- Did you get caught up with your busy schedule? If you start to approach a due date, it will turn yellow. If it passes without completion, it will turn red. This will help you prioritize tasks.
Are you planning with friends or your special someone? Share the template with whomever you wish via Google Drive. Everyone will be on the same page, in real-time! Multiple people can edit at the same time.
4. Helpful Links
The template doesn’t just help you plan your time, it connects you with great resources in a single click.
- Want to survey your friends to find the best time to hold your party? Links to useful websites and apps are included.

5. Customizable Prom Checklist
This is no generic planning guideline that will result in an amazing prom night. So instead we provided some suggestions for tasks that will help you create your customized prom checklist.
Important Appointments, Reservations, and Preorders
For ladies, you may want to consider scheduling appointments to get your hair, makeup, and nails done. If you are buying a dress for prom and it doesn’t fit right, you could book an appointment with a tailor to get your dress fitted. Guys should consider booking an appointment for their hair cut and to get their tuxedo fitted. Suppose you decide to get professional photos taken. In that case, you should not wait until the last minute to book an appointment with a photographer. Other things to consider are the reservation for a limo and dinner at a restaurant. Also, you should think about pre-ordering prom tickets, corsages, boutonniere, and flowers.
Shopping for Clothes & Accessories
You should consider if you are either going to rent or purchase your clothes for prom. Know that buying your clothes is more expensive, but there will be more fashion options, and you will be able to get it fitted to your exact measurements. Also, if you buy your clothes for prom, you could keep it as memorabilia to remember this special day. You may want to consider accessories such as a small handbag, a clutch, heels, and jewelry for ladies. For guys, accessories are cufflinks, bow tie or tie, dress shoes, and socks.
Transportation for Prom Night
If a group member or your partner is driving, you might have to pay for some of the gas. However, if no one has a car and you don’t want your parents to drive, you could split the limo cost among group members. Another option in the 21st century is splitting the cost for an Uber ride.
Activities After Prom
If there is no after-party for prom, you and your friends could consider going to the beach or planning a small get together. If you decided to go to the beach, you could start a campfire and reminisce about your high school time. However, if you have a small get together at someone’s house, you can watch a movie or play the game among us.
