Baby Shower Games: Getting Active

1. Price is Right

Babies come with a whole lot of stuff. See who's best at guessing the cost of it all! Set out a table with pictures of baby items, like cribs, car seats, and strollers, and have your guests match price tags to each item. You might consider printing a picture of expensive baby items and a picture of the same item but less expensive and seeing if your guests can differentiate the two based on price. You can your very own Price is Right with the exception of Drew Carey, of course!

2. You Feed Your Baby That?

This is a taste bud experience that will live on in your memory forever! We love it not only because of how fun it is but also how cheap it is. To play, buy some jars of baby food and remove the labels. Number each jar and create a tasting plate for each guest by placing a clear number of stickers on a disposable plate. Pass around each jar and have every guest place a small amount on their plate at the corresponding number. Try to guess the most correct flavors to win. Your entire shower will be perplexed trying to figure out exactly what they are eating and how babies enjoy it so much!

3. Stroller Obstacle Course

You may be licensed to drive a motor vehicle, but how about a stroller? We will put that to the test with this unique game! The mother-to-be will soon be having to navigate her stroller through tight spaces and crowds, so this game makes perfect sense for the shower. Test the guests and your own skills by creating an obstacle course. You can easily assemble a course by placing traffic cones and lanes marked by rope, ribbon, or pool noodles! For added fun, pick up a doll to be the dummy and race through the course. May the best stroller driver win!

4. Balloon Challenge

This is a spontaneous game! Write on small pieces of paper different challenges, such as singing a lullaby or acting out hilarious baby scenes, as well as one “winner” paper. Have the guests take turns choosing and popping her balloon and then performing the challenge on it. Add props such as pacifiers and teething rings to encourage everyone to be fun and creative!

5. Hot Diaper, Hot Diaper!

This game’s just like Hot Potato, but instead, pass around a dirty diaper! We suggest making this diaper by melting chocolate bark into a diaper for the appearance without the stench! Have a DJ ) who will play music and stop it at random times. Whoever is stuck with the diaper when the music stops is out. Everyone will be full of suspense to see who gets the mess on them!

6. Pin the Baby on the Mommy

For this game, print out a large picture of the mother-to-be. Pin it to a wall with tape or thumbtacks. You will also need a picture of a baby, a blindfold, and a ribbon. Blindfold your guests and hand them the baby picture with the ribbon attached. Let them take their best guess on where to pin the baby to the printout of the mother. The results will truly be hilarious to witness!

7. Diaper Messages

As guests arrive at the shower, ask them to use a marker, and write on the front of a few diapers for messages to the parents. After all of the guests have written something, place them throughout boxes of plain diapers and give them to the expectant mother to take home. Make them funny so it’s a little treat for both parents when they have to wake up in the middle of the night to change the baby! Some examples are, “But aren’t I so cute?”, “Why do you look so tired; it’s only 3 AM!”, or “I tried to warn you that I didn’t like the food when you were feeding it to me!”

8. Bottle Drinking Competition

Show that you still have that party animal left in you without any alcohol! Fill baby bottles with either water or juice, and make your guests face-off by seeing who can finish a bottle the quickest. For real fun, rig the competition: use one bottle that has a really small opening or none at all. The guest with that bottle is sure to have a tantrum, a great way to prepare for the baby!

9. Fishing For Nipples

This is an inexpensive option that will still bring loads of entertainment. To play, simply fill up a large bucket of water, throw in baby bottle nipples, and ask your guests to bob for the nipples. This is a baby shower twist on the old bobbing for apples game!

10. Feed Me!

Break your guests into teams of two and sit them across from one another. Blindfold each person, and place a trash bag (with a hole cut out for their head) over one person. Have the other person feed the “baby” a snack-size pudding as quickly as they can. You can also use treats like Jello or whipped cream. We also suggest putting down plastic or cardboard to make cleaning up easy!

11. Mother’s Measurements

It’s no secret the baby shower guest of honor is getting larger by the day with her ever-growing child inside. Ask your guests to cut a string or twine they think will fit around mommy’s stomach. Whoever has the closest fitting string wins a prize. Not only is this a great time for the guests, but it will also create a wonderful keepsake for the mother-to-be!

12. Diaper Change Relay Race

Time is going to be a precious commodity for the mother-to-be in the coming months and years. Use that to make a game! Get a baby doll and some doll clothing, and have the guests race in dressing it up. Teams should be assembled with one or two people monitoring each team to ensure they follow the steps correctly. The teams begin with the baby doll in a diaper and must take it off and put a new one on. Once every team member has wiped the baby and put a diaper on, the team is finished.

13. Act It Out

Split your group up into two teams. Have each team whisper a word to the other team that relates only to babies, pregnancy, and parenthood. That team has to act out that word to their team. To spice it up, get props like pacifiers, rattles, a baby monitor, toys, and stuffed animals for them to truly act out their word! Not only are these props good for the game, but they also are a great gift in the end for the mother-to-be.

14. Don't Say "Baby"

When guests first arrive at the party, you will have everyone take one pin and put them on their shirt. Every time someone says the word "baby", that person must take a pin off their shirt and give it to the person who heard them. The person at the end of the night with the most pins left wins the game!

15. Leaning Tower of Diapers!

First, you will want to divide all of your guests into teams consisting of five to ten people. Once you have done that, you will give the teams a stack of diapers. They will then take turns stacking the diapers on top of each other one by one. The team that can stack the most diapers without them falling wins!

16. Guess Their Age

Before the event, you are going to need to collect pictures from all of your guests from when they were younger. This can include pictures from various stages of life. For example, it could be pictures of people when they were babies, teenagers, or even from their early adult life. Once you have done that, I would recommend creating a slideshow with each picture on its own slide. During the party, you will need to give everyone a pen and paper. You will then go through each picture and have everyone write down what age they think the photo was taken. Whoever gets the most correct wins! This is a great way to get your guests involved and people usually get a good laugh out of the game as well!

15. Weirest Cravings

This game is simple, requires zero preparation, and is a great way to get everyone engaged. Every mom or mom-to-be will go around in a circle and describe their weirdest pregnancy craving without actually saying what it is. Everyone will then write down what they think it is and the person who guessed correctly wins!

14. Did You Hear That Advice?

Play a game of telephone. What makes this game of telephone unique is that the sentence must be a helpful piece of advice for the mom-to-be. Let the advice cover absolutely everything to ensure that at some point it gets twisted into something completely hilarious! For example, if you were to begin the game, you could tell the neighboring guest "(Mom-to-be) needs to stick to an early bedtime because she needs to be able to recharge her battery after long days of caring for her baby."

15. What She Said

For a hilarious play on baby words, write everything that the expecting mom says as she opens up all of her gifts. Once she has finished, read her responses aloud as things that she may have said the night when the baby was created. We aren’t responsible for how hard your sides will be hurting from laughing!

16. Speed List

This is like speed-dating except we are in a room with decent people, and we are focused on babies for a change. To play, name as many baby items you can in three minutes. You would be surprised how quickly people run out of ideas and what they will say when that happens!

17. Baby Sock Estimate

This is a spin-off of the classic “Guess How Many Pennies Are In A Jar” game adapted to fit your baby shower. To do this, fill a clear container with as many baby socks as you can. Have each guest write their guess of how many are in the container on a piece of paper. Once you have them all collected, reveal the winner and give mom the jar of socks. Don’t just limit yourself to baby socks. Anything that would be useful to the mother-to-be such as safety pins or pacifiers could be added.

18. What Celebrity Am I?

Worried about whether your guests will mingle and converse? If so, then this game is a perfect way to keep everyone engaged with each other. When each guest arrives, place a name tag with the name of a celebrity on their back. The trick of the game is that they must guess who they are by asking others only yes or no questions. The responses are going to keep everyone talking and gathering about the entire shower!

19. Rookie Season Stats

This is such a simple and cost-effective game! Ask each guest to guess what the newborn’s weight, height, time of birth, birthdate, gender, and eye color are going to be. You can also keep the game going by taking a guess as to what foods they will prefer and their sleeping schedule. While your child may not be born yet, it is so much fun to speculate on what they might become! For extra fun, keep a record of these guesses, and after the child is born and these details are known, the parents can contact the winners and let them know!

20. Who is Who?

Think you know all of your attendees pretty well? Test it out! Have each guest bring a baby photo of themselves and write numbers on the back of each photo. Get everyone to take a guess as to who is pictured on a blank, numbered piece of paper. This is a simple and affordable game that will make you truly wonder who is who!

21. Future Postmate

Buy blank cards for however many guests you have attending and then number them. Have them each make a future birthday card for any age full of advice. Gather everyone around and read them aloud. This gets fun if they choose an age like 16 or 18 where important milestones will happen. This will make for a great keepsake for you and your future child.

5"x7", Blank Cards and Envelopes, Blank White Invitation Cards with Envelopes All Occasions, Scored, Heavy Duty Quality Cardstock, Blank Greeting Christmas Cards Printable. (20 Pack)

22. Mismatched Advice

For this game, ask each guest to write down a common baby question on one index card and the answer on another. Later, pass out the index cards, ensuring that the question is paired with the correct answer. Have everyone read a question, and pick out the funniest advice card. We are sure that this will get some hearty chuckles and maybe even some true-life stories!

23. Trivia Tic-Tac-Toe

Take the time old game of Tic-Tac-Toe, and add an intelligent twist. Break your guests up into two teams, and have them work together to solve trivia facts about babies. For each correct answer, that team gets a turn to go on the tic-tac-toe board. You can ask the questions Jeopardy-style and have them answer by ringing a small bell. This game will involve everyone and be interesting to see who knows their stuff.

24. Bust a Rhyme

Looking to add a modern aspect to your shower? Then Nursery Rhyme Emoji Pictionary is what you need. Distribute the Pictionary set to each guest for them to guess as many nursery rhymes as they can that are related to the set of emojis. See how many can name the most nursery rhymes in 4 minutes without using their cell phones.

25. What’d You Say?

Hand each guest a beaded necklace and explain that the word “mom” or “baby” won’t be allowed to be used for the entire shower. Regular beaded necklaces will not be easy to remove the beads so we suggest getting a teething necklace that will double as an adorable gift. If someone says the word, a person can call them out and take their beads. The goal is to collect the most necklaces. This will bring out some truly unique ways to talk about the soon-to-be baby!

Baby Shower Games to Avoid

26. What Will the Baby Look Like

Complicated and somewhat creepy... this game consists of large cutouts of the expecting parents’ facial features being taped onto a generic baby’s face to create the unborn baby. This game is time-consuming and very obscure; there is also no winner...so where's the fun in that?

27. Learn Baby-Proofing

No one coming to a baby shower wants to fall asleep “playing” educational games. This game is most likely not entertaining and may cause argumentative debates over what is “correct” and “incorrect” considering how parenting techniques vary greatly. If your guests really wanted more information about baby-proofing, they could have easily gone to their local baby store or Googled "how to baby-proof."

28. Onesie Designing

One of the most overused cliche shower “games” to ever exist is onesie designing. If your guests have ever been to a baby shower, they’ve seen this game. Most people would consider this a punishment rather than a game considering how tedious and time-consuming this is.

29. Sing To Me

This game involves recording your guests singing their favorite song or lullaby to the baby. For most people (including myself), this sounds absolutely terrifying. Considering a majority of people can barely remember what they ate for breakfast, this game will make your guests extremely uncomfortable and put them in an awkward situation.

30. Autograph Towel

It’s not the worst game in the book, but it’s definitely not recommended. It turns a regular towel into a towel full of messages and names for the baby. This is more of a memento rather than a game, which is often not entertaining to guests, so it would be better to choose something more interactive to play that will keep your guests engaged.

31. Future Mommy

Once again, this is a game I would not ever recommend. The game claims that the person who brings the seventh gift that the mom-to-be opens is going to be the next one expecting. This isn’t a game, and it will most likely make your guests uncomfortable (especially ones that do not even plan on having children).

32. Time Capsule

The time capsule makes this list because it’s not a game and it’s complicated to set up. This entails people bringing items that are meaningful to the year in which the baby is born. You often need hindsight to derive meaning.

33. Here Comes the Baby!

I think that I speak for everyone when I say that this is one of the more odd games out of all of the previous ones listed. Here comes the baby! calls for miniature baby figurines to be frozen inside ice cubes. These ice cubes are then handed out to the guests to see who can melt their ice cube first and get to the baby. This game is messy, cold, time-consuming, and just plain strange.

34. Finish the Nursery Rhyme

Before the party, create a sheet with the start of various nursery rhymes. When the guests arrive, hand the papers out and give everyone five minutes to complete the song. The person with the most rhymes filled out wins!

Conclusion

No matter what theme or atmosphere you want for your party, these games will spice up your baby shower and make the occasion memorable for everyone while you're able to save money and stay within your budget. This is a very special event so we hope you enjoyed this list of baby shower games. Also don't forget to plan for the other components of a baby shower including decorations, party favors, gifts for the expecting mother, venue ideas and much more!
